40th Anniversary Of CEC Earth Day

CEC & EARTH DAY TURN 40!

ALAMEDA PARK: DOWNTOWN SANTA BARBARA

Saturday, April 17: 11am-7pm

Sunday, April 18: 11am-6pm

Santa Barbara Earth Day is the signature, annual event for Southern California environmental organizations and businesses to profile their work and connect with the public. This year’s commemorative anniversary will include:
•    Lectures, workshops, art events and other activities organized by the broader environmental community in the “40 days to Earth Day 40.” To include your event in the marketing of these pre-festival events, please send details to Suzanne Feldman at sfeldman@cecmail.org
•    Green Shorts Film Festival. Two-minute films on the Earth Day theme “Bringing it Home” are being accepted through Friday, March 26. Winners will be announced at a screening at the Lobero on Friday, April 17. These and other short environmental films will also be shown at the Earth Day Festival. Initial partners include Traffic Solutions, Santa Barbara Channels 17, the Santa Barbara Air Pollution Control District, and Samy’s Camera.
•    Green Home Pavilion. A large mock-up green home that will demonstrate all aspects of a sustainable lifestyle.  Initial partners include The Sustainability Project and Allen Associates. To get involved, email Lindsey Taggart at ltaggart@cecmail.org. You can also download a Green Home Pavilion Sponsorship Package for details.
•    Green Car Show. This year, this popular Earth Day feature will nearly double in size, featuring fleets of electric cars and motorcycles, the newest hybrids, and vehicles that run on hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel and compressed natural gas. To get involved, email Michael Chiacos at mchiacos@cecmail.org
•    Harvest to Home area. Organizations and businesses involved in everything from vermiculture to backyard harvest programs will pool resources and offer mini-workshops throughout the event. To get involved, email Christa Backson at christa@cecmail.org

How we run a green festival
Electricity for the Earth Day festival is generated from the sun, thanks to REC Solar, and from biodiesel, thanks to @Power. The festival strives to keep our waste to a minimum by working with exhibitors and attendees to recycle all waste. (Special thanks to MarBorg Industries and the City of Santa Barbara’s Environmental Services.) And while we strongly encourage vendors and participants to walk, bike, carpool or ride the bus to the festival, we recognize that some carbon emissions will result from a gathering of this size. To make sure this is a truly carbon-free event, we offset the remaining emissions
